Democrats Control Twice as Many State Legislatures as Republicans

Politics  Magazine has an interesting article this month titled “Preparing for the Ten Year Storm” about the upcoming redistricting battle royale.  Democrats are much better prepared for the 2011 round than they were in 2001 (and for the first time since the Voting Rights Acts was passed have control of the Department of Justice), but Republicans and a conservative political non-profit headed by Newt Gingrich have locked up the best redistricting minds on the Right.

I’m going to be writing much more about redistricting in the coming months, but to start the education process, here is a great map from Politics illustrating the party breakdown of state legislatures.
