Barack Obama will deliver his victory speech tonight in Minneapolis’ XCel Energy Center, the same arena where John McCain will accept the GOP nomination this summer.
Is it a coincidence?
I doubt it. The Gopher State was once reliably blue and as recently as 1988 ranked 6th in Democratic performance. But in 2004, John Kerry snuck by George W. Bush by less than three points.
It’s a vital swing state and one that political handicappers like Paul Maslin have noted Obama has to “absolutely, positively has to win” if he hopes to reach 270. He most likely will win it, but expect him to visit many more times. McCain will make sure of it.
